Kathy Schiano
I was born in Davenport, Iowa, and grew up on a farm outside Iowa City. I started playing cello after my family moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where my dad ran the computer center at University of Kansas. Coming from a large family of ten kids (5 boys & 5 girls) I spent a lot of time practicing in order to get out of chores!
When I was a senior in high school I played the Haydn C Major Cello Concerto with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra. I attended the University of Kansas and have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Violincello Performance. I went to graduate school on the east coast and have a Master of Music from SUNY at Stony Brook. There I studied with one of the greatest cellists in the 20th Century, Bernard Greenhouse who was a founding member of the acclaimed Beaux Arts Trio. After settling in Connecticut, I earned an MBA with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Hartford.
I am the principal cellist of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and a substitute with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. I also teach privately throughout the state and at my home in Avon.
My goal is to provide clients with the best possible quality of music at the most reasonable price. My two demo CD's have close to 100 tracks and have samples of solos, duos, trios and quartets. The recordings were not altered or enhanced -- they are a true representation of our sound.
